CONNIE AVILA THE ARTIST

While art has always been a part of my life, I didn’t start painting until I was almost forty. Working as a hairdresser, wife & mother of three children did not leave a lot of time for anything else. So, a friend and I started attending a once-a-week painting class. It was our weekly outing.

Being an oil painter for the last twenty years has been a joy and has given me a feeling of personal accomplishment. My art seems to be evolving into a more impressionistic style. While being influenced by Monet, Vegas, Renoir and others, there are many modern day artists that I admire and have tried to immolate. I’ve had the privilege of taking workshops with some. While I don’t consider myself a landscape artist, I love painting houses or people in a landscape setting. I think my real love is painting people, since they are so varied and interesting.

As a young girl, I used to draw women’s faces. I think people add a story to paintings, and I like my paintings to feel warm and inviting, with a little mystery and romance.

I am an associate member of oil painters of America, and Alliance of California Artists. I’ve been featured at Blue Moon Gallery in Fresno and have had several shows there. Also, I have participated in local art fairs. I am currently showing at the Wine Cottage Bistro in Orcutt, CA.

Cards and prints are available if you contact me by phone or email. I also do commissioned work.
